Since 2011, Tacoma, WA post-punk outfit Criminal Code has issued a spate of stark, frenetic recordings that prize performance as much as mood. In other words, while many acts create similarly severe, forbidding atmosphere with icy guitar leads and staccato drums, few feature Criminal Code’s combustibility as an ensemble, the palpable physicality and propulsion of a group hardboiled on stage. In that spirit, “Solitude”, the a-side of a forthcoming Forward Records 7-inch (the b-side recently premiered here), threads wily leads through blitzkrieg drums while vocalist Taiga Dinger’s bark imparts the pleasure of an added percussive element. Below, stream “Solitude” and see Criminal Code summer tour dates (appearances that include a new addition to the lineup, Chad Bucklew of Lysol and Freak Vibe).
