Again, deafheaven have injected a dose of black metal into a less sonically extreme genre. The victim: alt rock. The prognosis: decidedly un-grim. The subtle vulnerabilities of the softer guitars and textures, when juxtaposed and infused with deafheaven's trademark black metal sound, creates something truly unique. Another step forward into the blackened avant-garde of metal sees deafheaven recapture the spirit of their earlier muscial experimentation, and produce another enjoyably unique album. Favorite track: Glint.
